Portrait Tips

Clothing Style & Accessories

  • Keep clothing simple. Solids and simple patterns work best. Bold Stripes, plaids and prints can be distracting from your face.

  • For a formal look, choose mid tones and deep tones.

  • For a casual or romantic look, choose light colors.

  • Wear long sleeves whenever possible. Bare arms and shoulders can draw attention away from your face.

  • Scoop necklines and v-necks flatter fuller faces and shorter necks.

  • Turtlenecks and higher necklines flatter slender faces and long necks.

  • Keep jewelry small and simple.

  • For groups, choose similar color, patterns and styles. This will create a greater sense of togetherness.

Hair & Makeup

  • Try to keep your hair style simple and natural.

  • It is not a good idea to cut or color your hair right before the portrait session.

  • Keep makeup light, natural and fresh.

  • Choose makeup that compliments your skin tone.

Children and Babies

  • Children need to be fed and well rested.

  • You are welcome to bring dry food.

  • Be sure to bring their special things.

And Remember

We want your portrait experience to be a pleasurable one. So relax, take a deep breath and have fun.
